美國在台協會台中線上分處代表Mr. Matthew O'Connor 於11月19日拜訪逢甲大學並發表2篇演講. 當天早上, Mr. O'Connor 與商學系博士生討論 "美台貿易關係". 他的談話主要針對美台經貿活動, 包括農業, 醫藥, 專利權, 與雙邊經濟和科學合作. 在熱絡的問答時間裡, 學生們詢問有關台灣進口美國牛肉及基因黃豆, 在台灣創造更多投資機會, 專利權和水安全的問題. 黃主任表示這場演講啟發了他的學生們對未來雙邊經貿關係發展的思考.

稍後, Mr. O'Connor 以"美國的文化, 教育, 及語言" 為題對100位外語文學系的大一生發表演講. 其演講內容著重在塑造美國文化的歷史, 地理, 及哲學的因素, 以突顯其多樣, 教育, 獨立, 運動和食物的主題. 參與的學生們詢問Mr. O'Connor 一連串廣泛的問題, 包括 他對台灣認同感, 在家教育, 擁有槍械, 及信仰衝突的看法.

On November 19, AIT Virtual Branch Officer Mr. Matthew O'Connor delivered two talks at Feng Chia University. In the morning, he talked about "US-Taiwan Trade Relations" to a group of doctoral students in business. His talks addressed U.S. -Taiwan economic and trade activities, including issues such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and Intellectual Property Rights, as well as bilateral economic and scientific cooperation. During the lively Q&A, students asked question relating to Taiwan's import U.S. beef and GM soybean, creating more investment opportunities in Taiwan, IPR, and water security issues. Director Huarng said this talk inspired his students to think about the future development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

Later that day, Mr. O'Connor talked to 100 freshman from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature on the topic of "American Culture, Education, and Language." His talk focused on the historical, geographical and philosophical factors that have shaped American culture, highlighting such themes as diversity, education, independence, sports, and food. The students who attended asked Mr. O'Connor questions about a broad range of issues, including his views on the Taiwan Identity, home schooling, gun ownership, and religious conflicts.
