AIT官員拜訪曉明女中並介紹美國文化 (圖/AIT)

美國在台協會領事組官員 Mr. Gilbert Morton 在六月十七日下午拜訪天主教曉明女中, 並和五十位同學進行美國文化的講座， 曉明女中位於台灣的第三大城市--台中市，也就是美國在台協會的第一個美國資料中心的所在地。 Mr. Morton 的演講提到一些重要的美國價值觀， 例如公平、個人的獨特性和誠實。 在提問中，同學們以流利的英語提出許多問題，包括西方文化對台灣社會的影響，外國人對台灣的印象，台美高中教育制度的不同，語言的學習，外交官的必備語言，以及赴美留學等議題。活動中並播放廸士尼公司所製作的影片"美國歡迎您"，內容是介紹美國各地區和各行各業的美國人。文化新聞組同仁也向同學介紹台中美國資料中心的服務並發送書籤。

On June 17, AIT Consular Officer Mr. Gilbert Morton gave a presentation on U.S. culture to 50 students from Stella Matutina Girls High School in Taiwan's third largest city, Taichung, home of AIT's flagship American Corner. Mr. Morton highlighted some core American values such as equality, individualism and honesty. After the presentation, Mr. Morton answered questions on a variety of topics including western influences on Taiwan society, impressions of Taiwan among foreigners, the differences between the high school education systems of Taiwan and the U.S., language learning, language requirements for being a diplomat as well as issues regarding study in the USA. The video "Welcome: Portrait of America" produced by Walt Disney in partnership with U.S. Government, featuring American people from all regions and walks of life was shown to the audience. IRC staff also briefed the students about the American Corner services and distributed the American Corner bookmarks.
