為了慶祝7月4日美國國慶, 美國在台協會及台中美國資料中心邀請150位原住民及弱勢青少年來參加2009年7月4日及5日的英語夏令營. 大部份學員來自原住民山地部落, 對於美國文化有極少的接觸. 此活動在2個地點舉行: 台中美國資料中心 及 靜宜大學外語中心. 活動內容包括詳實地介紹美國棒球, 棒球英語, 美國一些象徵的典故. 活動中, 台灣職棒兄弟象的2位原住民球員以故事來介紹美國棒球, 藉以激發學員對棒球的興趣. 台灣的ESPN體育台在網路新聞裡有一則本活動的報導.

In order to celebrate the Fourth of July, the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taichung American Corner invited 150 aboriginal and disadvantaged youth to participate in an English Summer Camp on July 4 and 5, 2009. Many were from aboriginal mountain villages and had little previous exposure to American culture. This event was held at two locations--the Taichung American Corner and Taichung's Providence University Foreign Language Center. It included informative presentations regarding American baseball, baseball English, and stories about American symbols. During the program, two players of Aboriginal origin from the Taiwan professional baseball team the Brother Elephants introduced American baseball with tales that inspired the students’ interest in the game. Taiwan's ESPN affiliate filed an online news story regarding this program.
